Week 19 | 3 Stars of The Week

Ty Glenn

It was another exciting week in the 2024-25 College Hockey South season, and what a week it was!

The MTSU Blue Raiders made history by capturing their first-ever Ameritrans Cup, while the South Carolina Gamecocks claimed the PictSweet Cup in their inaugural Division 3 season.

As we look ahead to the AAU Nationals in March, these three standout players shined the brightest in Week 19 of the College Hockey South season.

1st Star: (G) Ayden Kopec, Middle Tennessee State University: 3-0-0, 1.00 GAA, 0.977 SV%, 1 Shutout

There was no doubt that Ayden Kopec earned the title of our first star of the week.

Kopec delivered a stellar performance in the College Hockey South Division 2 Championship game, stopping all 50 shots in MTSU’s 4-0 shutout victory over the USF Ice Bulls. His dominance between the pipes earned him the D2 Playoff MVP award.

Throughout the regular season, Kopec has been a force in net, tying FAU’s Rocco Bruno for the most wins among D2 goaltenders, ranking third in goals-against average (2.64), and leading the division in save percentage (0.932).

Kopec’s impact was instrumental in MTSU’s championship-winning season, and now the Blue Raiders shift their focus to the AAU Nationals in Jacksonville, Florida, this March.

2nd Star: (G) Drew Durdov, University of South Carolina (D3): 3-0-0, 1.67 GAA, 0.946 SV%

South Carolina Gamecocks goaltender Drew Durdov earns our second star of the week.

Durdov was outstanding in the College Hockey South Division 3 Championship game, stopping 27 of 28 shots in South Carolina’s dominant 7-1 victory over the Florida Gators. His stellar performance earned him the D3 Playoff MVP award.

In addition to his playoff heroics, Durdov was named to the College Hockey South Division 3 All-Conference Second Team. He currently ranks second in wins (10), goals-against average (1.50), and save percentage (0.941%), cementing his status as one of the top goaltenders in the division.

Durdov has been a key piece of the Gamecocks' success all season, backstopping them to a championship in their first year in Division 3.

3rd Star: (F) Sebastian Zamborsky, Kennesaw State University: 6 Goals, 1 Assist, 7 Points in 3 Games

Rounding out this week’s stars is Kennesaw State forward Sebastian Zamorsky, who delivered a standout offensive performance.

Zamorsky led the Owls this season in both goals (22) and points (33), finishing tied for second in goals and ranking sixth in overall points across the division.

His most impressive postseason performance came on Feb. 22 in the seventh-place game against the Alabama Frozen Tide, where he tallied five points (4 goals, 1 assist), highlighted by a spectacular between-the-legs powerplay goal in KSU’s 8-3 victory.

Zamorsky’s offensive firepower was a key asset for the Owls all season, making him a well-deserving third star of the week.

Congratulations to Ayden Kopec, Drew Durdov, and Sebastian Zamborsky for being named our Three Stars of the Week!
