Less than three weeks away from the Women’s Division and Division 1 playoffs in Athens, and the field is nearly set.
Women’s Division
Five of a possible six teams have punched their ticket to the postseason, including Alabama, South Florida, Tampa, Auburn, and Georgia.
First-year College Hockey South addition Alabama has stormed onto the scene and will be one of the favorites to win the tournament in early February. The Frozen Tide have lost twice this season, including once to defending conference champion Tampa.
Only one spot remains, and South Carolina currently occupies it.
The top six teams in the standings advance to the Women’s Division playoffs.
Division 1
The first-place Georgia Ice Dawgs took their first regulation loss of the season on Saturday against Tennessee, but since it was in tournament play at the Savannah Hockey Classic, Tennessee did not receive points for it,
Both teams have secured spots in the Division 1 playoffs alongside South Carolina, Tampa, and Florida.
Georgia will be the top seed and the host in the brand-new Akins Ford Arena in downtown Athens, GA.
Division 2
Clemson continues to make up for lost time, moving into third place in the North Division. Clemson won on the road at previously undefeated Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders had won their first six division games.
Florida Southern inches closer to the final playoff spot in the South Division after tying Central Florida on Friday. With only one game left that counts for standings, the Mocs are in a must-win situation against the Miami Hurricanes on February 7 if they want to slide into that final playoff spot.
The top four teams in each division will advance to the Division 2 playoffs. The clinching teams will be announced closer to the playoffs.
Division 3
Some shakeups in the North Division due to forfeits: Kennesaw State and South Carolina picked up four points, which puts the Gamecocks into first place. These two teams are set to tangle next weekend.
The Florida Gators beat Florida Tech twice to tie the Panthers with 12 points. Both teams are currently in playoff position.
The top five teams in each division will advance to the Division 3 playoffs.
