Audrey Pfitzner

Week nine of the 2024-25 College Hockey South season will begin on Friday, Nov. 1. This weekend is highlighted by an assortment of in-state matchups and a vital rematch from last season’s national tournament.

Game of the Week: University of South Carolina (D1) vs. University of Tampa (D1)

The University of South Carolina will host the University of Tampa in a two-game series, a rematch of last season's national semi-final. The Gamecocks beat the Spartans 6-4 to advance to the AAU Division 1 National Championship Game, where they defeated the University of Buffalo 4-1.

Game one is set for Friday, Nov. 1, at Flight Adventure Park, with puck drop at 8:30 p.m.

The Gamecocks currently top the Division 1 standings and are unbeaten in College Hockey South matchups. Through eight weeks of play, they have been victorious in 10 of their 11 outings.

John Riggins (25) has headed the Gamecock offense this season, racking up 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points. Riggins leads all Division 1 players in goals and points.

The Spartans will look to bounce back after splitting their weekend series with Tennessee last weekend. After going ahead four goals in the second game, the Spartans were stunned in overtime.

The second game of the series will take place Sunday, Nov. 3, at 10:00 a.m.

This week’s Game of the Week will be streamed here.

University of Tampa (W) vs. University of Miami (W)

The reigning College Hockey South champion Tampa Lady Spartans will take the ice this season against the University of Miami for the first time.

The Hurricanes split their opening series with the University of South Florida in early October and have not played since.

Megan Malolepszy (21) leads the Hurricanes in scoring with four goals and two assists for six points.

The Spartans dominated their College Hockey South schedule last season, going a perfect 11-0 and outscoring their opponents by 91. They will hope to repeat this this year.

Game 1 will be played on Friday, Nov. 1, followed by Game 2 on Saturday, Nov. 2. Puck drop for both games is set at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Austin Peay State University (D3) vs. Kennesaw State University (D3)

The Austin Peay State University Governors will travel to Georgia to play the Kennesaw State University Owls in a two-game series.

The Govs are ranked third in College Hockey South D3 North Division with a record of 4-2-0 (8 points), while the Owls are ranked sixth with a record of 0-2-0 (0 points).

Through seven games, Austin Peay’s Jackson Smith (15) has 13 points, 12 of which are goals. His 12 goals put him second in the division in goals.

In their last outing, the Governors swept the University of Alabama at Birmingham, scoring 17 goals in two games.

Kennesaw State is looking to bounce back after losing twice against University of Tennessee (D3) last weekend.

Game 1 will be held Friday, Nov. 1, at 9:45 p.m., and Game 2 will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10:00 p.m. Both games will be held at Atlanta Ice House.

University of Mississippi (D2) vs. Georgia Institute of Technology (D2)

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will host the University of Mississippi Ice Rebels for two games this Friday and Saturday.

The Ice Rebels are looking to continue their three-game win streak.  After scoring in the past two matchups, Doyle Coughlin (15) will look to extend his goal streak.

After going 1-7-1 through their first nine games, the Yellow Jackets hope to forget the past and build momentum.

Georgia Tech will rely on Cullen Dorcas (7) to get the offense going. Dorcas has a point in all but one game this season.

This series will be held at Atlanta Ice Forum at 8:00 p.m. Friday and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

University of Tampa (D2) vs. Florida Southern College (D2)

The University of Tampa Spartans and Florida Southern College Mocs will participate in a Sunshine State home-and-home matchup.

Game 1 will be played at Clearwater Ice Arena at 8:30 p.m., while Game 2 will be played at 8:00 p.m. at Lakeland Ice Arena.

The Spartans enter the weekend with an overall record of 4-2-0, while the Mocs are 1-5-1.

The Mocs will count on the dynamic duo of Will Marshall (19) and Michael Woll (93) to lead the offense. Marshall has 20 points on the season, while Woll has 18.
