2024-25 Season Week 2 Preview

Game of The Week: University of Georgia (D1) vs. University of South Carolina (D1)


The Week 2 Game of the Week transpires in Irmo, SC, where the University of Georgia Ice Dawgs vs. the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.


The game will be held Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET at Flight Adventure Park.


The Gamecocks will not only be kicking off the home portion of the 2024-2025 season but also raising a banner for their 2024 AAU Division 1 National Championship.


They have continued their winning streak from last season after defeating the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in a weekend series on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7.


The Ice Dawgs are going into their first game of the season after an overall record of 20-9-1 last season. They made it to the national championship tournament but lost the chance to advance after placing second during pool play.

Florida Atlantic University (D2) vs. University of Tampa (D1)  


Florida Atlantic University Owls will open their season at home against the University of Tampa Spartans at the Panthers Ice Den for a weekend series.


Game one will occur this Friday at 8:15 p.m. ET.


While the Spartans are the defending CHS Division 1 tournament champions, they were unable to advance further than the national semifinals back in March.


The Owls finished their season with a 23-5-1 overall record but were defeated 8-4 by the University of Florida Gators in the 2024 AAU Division 2 National Championship game.


Game two will be held on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ET.


University of Central Florida (D2) vs. University of Miami (D2)


The University of Central Florida Knights and University of Miami Hurricanes will head into the weekend with a two-day game series at the Knights home rink.


The series will be held at the Orlando Ice Den on Friday at 9:00 p.m. ET and Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET.


The Hurricanes dominated the Division 3 ranks last season winning College Hockey South conference tournament and Division 3 AAU National Champions, they have moved up to Division 2 this season.


The Knights placed sixth in CHS Division 2 tournament but could not move out of pool play during the AAU Division 2 National Championship.


University of Mississippi (D3) vs. Eastern Kentucky University (D3)


The University of Mississippi Ice Rebels will go against Eastern Kentucky University Colonels at the Lexington Ice Rink on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET.


This is the first time the Division 3 Ice Rebels will appear in the rink with Mike McAteer as their head coach.


The Colonels concluded last season with their overall record coming in at 5-7-0 but did not qualify for either CHS Division 3 Tournament or the Division 3 AAU Nationals.


University of Alabama (W) vs. University of Georgia (W)


The University of Alabama Frozen Tide will kick off its first season in history against the University of Georgia Ice Dawgs for a two-day weekend series at the Pelham Civic Complex.


Alabama’s head coach Kevin Davis who played for Alabama’s men’s hockey, and the team is ready for the highly anticipated game.


The Ice Dawgs will be back on the ice for their season opener after placing fourth during the first Women’s Division CHS playoffs last season.


With forward Hannah Knight and defense Morgan Alwardt graduated, the Ice Dawgs welcome three new additions that include forward Maddie Walker, goalie Saige Legault and forward Georgia Verheyden.


The newcomers have made UGA women’s hockey history with Legault being the team’s first transfer, Verheyden being their first committed player and Walker joining the team as a committed player as well.


The series first game will occur on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CT and the second game is scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CT.
