In our final weekly season preview, we break down the Division 2 & 3 conference tournaments! Eighteen teams compete across four days to earn the right to be Ameritrans (Division 2) or Pictsweet (Division 3) Cup champions.
For many teams this weekend, this will be their last game action until the AAU Nationals in March. Not only is each team desperate to win the conference championship, but also to fine-tune their game in a playoff atmosphere.
Division 2
Game of the Week: D2 Quarterfinal - (N2) Middle Tennessee State vs (S3) Tampa Spartans
This quarterfinal matchup showcases two teams heading in very different directions. The Blue Raiders wrapped up 2024 atop the North Division with a 16-1-1 record. However, since the start of 2025, Middle Tennessee State has struggled, losing five of their last eight games, allowing Clemson to take over the division lead.
On the other hand, Tampa began the year on the outside looking in, far from playoff and Nationals contention. But the Spartans surged in the final stretch, earning points in all six of their last games (five wins, one overtime loss) to finish the regular season as Division 2’s hottest team, securing a postseason spot.
Will Tampa carry its momentum into a quarterfinal victory, or can Middle Tennessee State bounce back from its recent slump? Much of the outcome may hinge on the performance of Middle Tennessee’s dynamic trio: Brendan Ogle, Ethan DeMumbrum, and Matthew Siciliano, who currently rank second, third, and fourth in Division 2 scoring.
The game is set to begin at 3:45 P.M. EST at the Florida Panthers Ice Den in Coral Springs, FL.
The rest of the Division 2 playoff slate on Friday, February 21st includes:
1:00 PM ET - (S2) South Florida vs. (N3) Vanderbilt
