2024-25 Season | Division 3 End of Season Awards

Danny Baum

Most Valuable Player: Christian Cuccia, Florida Atlantic University (25 G, 42 A, 67 PTS in 20 Games)

No, those aren’t typos; they are Christian Cuccia’s actual stats for this season. Anytime a stat line makes you double or even triple-take, they’re either horrendously bad or award-worthy; for Cuccia, it’s the latter.

Cuccia dominated the Division 3 ranks, scoring well over three points per game in his first season in College Hockey South. Christian’s scoring was so prolific that even if you took away all his goals on the season, he would still lead Division 3 in scoring. The next closest player has 40 points.

Congratulations to Christian Cuccia for an unbelievable season, and for being College Hockey South’s Division 3 Most Valuable Player.

Goalie of the Year: Matthew Silliman, Florida State University (10-2-2, 2.90 GAA, 0.914 SV%)

Matthew Silliman delivered a sensational season for the Seminoles, propelling Florida State into the playoffs as the South Division’s second seed. Silliman shouldered a heavy load, playing in 14 of Florida State’s 17 games this year.

Silliman leads Division 3 in wins and sports very respectable goals-against and save percentage numbers. Only one Division 3 goalie defeated Florida Atlantic this season, and that man is Matthew Silliman (twice). Silliman allowed three goals in two games against FAU’s vaunted offense.

Congratulations to Matthew Silliman for being named the College Hockey South Division 3 Goalie of the Year!

Coach of the Year: Joey Brochu, University of South Carolina (15-0-1)

Division 3’s top team in 2024-2025 didn’t exist a year ago, so their tremendous season was a dominant debut. I think it’s safe to say they’ve got the right guy behind the bench!

The Gamecocks success relied on stifling defense and excellent goaltending. South Carolina allowed 32 goals in 16 games this season, the fewest in Division 3; the next-best team is Georgia, who has allowed 47 goals in 15 games.

After tying UNC-Charlotte in their first game, the Gamecocks won 15 games in a row to clinch the top spot in the North Division. That means that Joey Brochu has yet to lose a game as head coach for South Carolina!

Congratulations to Joey Brochu for winning the 2024-25 College Hockey South Division 3 Coach of the Year!
